Whales in Space

A few years back I created a children’s book with the poet Kevin Phan. (His stuff is incredible. This is one of my favorites.) The book is about a girl named Franny, who might also be a whale crossing the ocean, which might also be the cosmos. Franny’s story is an imaginative rescue of Francesca Woodman, the brilliant photographer who died in 1981 at the age of 22.

Whales in Space was never published. Apparently cigar smoking aquatic mammals are a hard-sell in today’s market. Who knew? Nevertheless, a few pages:
